A Note from Sandra MacLean RN about “Compassion Kits.” “My name is Sandra MacLean and I am a registered nurse working here at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center. I work as a Psychiatric Nurse in ER and in my spare time I fundraise for mental health. This year I have decided to create ‘Compassion Kits’ for inpatients on Adult Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Forensic Mental Health here at TBRHSC as well as the two Assertive Community Treatment Teams. It is not uncommon for individuals to be discharged home with very little in their cupboards and ‘to much month left at the end of the money’. I was hoping to put together shoe boxes spray painted and tied with ribbon which would include survival items like toiletries, hat, mitts, socks, light bulb, book calendar, pen, small radio, soup, tea, canned ham or salmon. Anything you could donate would be greatly appreciated and you would be listed as a sponsor on the Compassion Kits. I thought of something the other day:’There really is no expiry or best before date on Compassion’. I hope to create 25 Compassion Kits yearly. I can pick up donations – my email is macleans@tbh.net. My home number is 807-683-3896 and work phone number 684-6441 and even though is says’ internal hospital line don’t leave a message’ go ahead and do so and I will get back to you.”
