October 31st, 20111. The Mission to Seafarers in Thunder Bay is looking for donations for Christmas Gift Bags to be given to seafarers in December. Donations need to be at the Seafarers’ Centre by November 21. Suggested donations include mittens, gloves, writing paper, and wrapped candy. The Mission to Seafarers is also still looking for donations of clothing, particularly warm small to medium men’s clothing.
2. There will be a Two-Bit Auction in support of the Anglican-Lutheran Church Women’s Group Bursary Fund on Friday November 4 at 7 pm at the Current River Community Centre. Tickets are $5 at the door.
3. On Saturday November 5 there will be a Beef on a Bun Supper at St Michael’s from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Adults $10 in advance; $12 at the door, Children under 12, $5. Silent Auction and card games to follow.
4. St. James Murillo, John St. Rd. at Calvert will be holding their annual Country Christmas Tea on Saturday, November 5 from 1:30 P.M. at the church in Morrow Hall. Admission $5.00 a person in advance or at the door. For tickets contact Gladys at 935-2202 or Sharron at 935-2648. Bake and Bazaar and New or Nearly New Table.
5. On Saturday November 5 there will be a Tea and Bazaar at St. Thomas’ from 1 – 4 pm.
6. A six-part DVD series “Surprised by Hope” will be offered at St. Stephen’s at 7:30 pm on Mondays: November 7 and 21, December 5 and 19 and January 16 and 30. It is based on the book Surprised by Hope written by Bishop Tom Wright, who is a New Testament scholar and Bishop of Durham. The topics are: Hope, Resurrection, Heaven, Second Coming, Salvation, and Church. This study is a fresh look at early church beliefs. We will watch the DVD and discuss it. There is a Study booklet, which you can purchase from www.chapters.ca, or order from St. Stephen’s at $11.00. Everyone is invited to come and participate.
7. On November 19 Thunder Bay Deanery is hosting a workshop with the Excellence in Worship chairperson, Dr. David Buley. It will be at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Nipigon. The workshop will run from 10:00 till 3:00. Lunch will be provided. This workshop is for everyone who is interested in music even if you only hum a tune; you will be inspired by Dr. Buley.
