October 20th, 20111. The Mission to Seafarers in Thunder Bay is looking for donations for Christmas Gift Bags to be given to seafarers in December. Donations need to be at the Seafarers’ Centre by November 21. Suggested donations include mittens, gloves, writing paper, and wrapped candy. The Mission to Seafarers is also still looking for clothing, particularly warm small to medium men’s clothing. There was a ship in over this past weekend and the crew appreciated getting warm clothing as they were from the Philippines. However, they took most of what was on hand.
2. St Michael’s famous Fall Soup and Sandwich Luncheon will be held on October 21st from 11 am to 2 pm. Cost is $10. Jams and pickles available at the “Mini-Mart.”
3. St. Paul’s Fall Tea and Bazaar (Ridgeway St. across from McKellar). Please come to a Fall Tea and Bazaar on Saturday, October 29th, from 1:30 to 4:00. Tickets $4.00. There will be many tables to browse: Fine Collectibles, Crafts, Baking, Jewellery, Used Books, Nearly-New, and our Kids Korner. Plus draws for Theme Baskets.
4. A six-part DVD series “Surprised by Hope” will be offered at St. Stephen’s at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays: November 7 and 21, December 5 and 19 and January 16 and 30. It is based on the book Surprised by Hope written by Bishop Tom Wright, who is a New Testament scholar and Bishop of Durham. The topics are: Hope, Resurrection, Heaven, Second Coming, Salvation, and Church. This study is a fresh look at early church beliefs. We will watch the DVD and discuss it. There is a Study booklet, which you can purchase from www.chapters.ca, or order from St. Stephen’s at $11.00. Everyone is invited to come and participate.
5. St. Mark’s Anglican Church will hold a Spaghetti Supper at Rosslyn Village Community Center on Oct. 30 from 4 – 6 pm. Sit down and takeout. Adults $8; ages 6 to 12 $3; under age 6 – $1. Proceeds to St. Marks Initiatives
